REVIEWS
The terror she brings to the reader is on the surface almost pleasingly simplistic, but as you are ensnared in the web of her adroit storytelling you begin to be caught up in the complexities and the stories become even more chilling. It is very cool to read horror fiction that gives you something that you can work with as a reader. These stories don’t just beat you over the head with a bloody arm, instead they hold that arm out to shake your hand. Seriously, who else could write a horror story about Flash Mountain?

I think [ghost stories and Disney Parks] is really…it’s like bacon and chocolate. It’s not necessarily the first thing you think of, but it goes together really well!

If horror isn’t exactly my favorite genre, certainly not my area of expertise, I respect the skill it requires to craft stories that have a haunting quality—whether of light or of shadow. Schoonover can play well with shadows.

Kristi Petersen Schoonover has written a lovely collection of stories that aren’t gory and too ridiculous to be scary, but horror stories that are part of every day life…I enjoyed propping up my feet and reading these stories that are unlike most of the stories I read!

I finished this book over 5 days ago, yet her dead animal story, Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole, is still with me. Now that’s a good storyteller!
