A HALLOWEEN TREAT ESPECIALLY FOR DISNEY’S HAUNTED MANSION FANS: “GRAVE ERROR,” A GHOST STORY SET IN THE ATTRACTION

30 Oct

The Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World, September, 2005.

Way back in 2007, I wrote a ghost story set in Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction; it was originally intended to appear in Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole—Tales from Haunted Disney World, but was cut because, despite the fact that it was a ghost story, it was a different type of ghost story than was in the collection and it just didn’t seem to fit.

In addition, it was so attraction-detailed that I didn’t feel that anyone who hadn’t ridden theHauntedMansion inDisneyland or Walt Disney World would appreciate it.

So, HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all you die-hard fans of theHauntedMansionattraction: I give you the story “Grave Error” as a treat! This story won’t be published anywhere else—it’s exclusively for you; feel free to download it and share it or pass it on to friends who are also fans.

Grave Error-A Halloween Treat for Disney’s Haunted Mansion Fans

And if you missed my four-part series on some imagery in Disneyland’sHauntedMansionattraction and the ghost stories that may have inspired them, here are the links:

AN AUDIO TREAT FOR HALLOWEEN: I READ THE OUT-OF-PRINT “HOUSE SITTER” ON PARANORMAL, EH? RADIO!

29 Oct

Nathan’s apartment decked out for Halloween, 2005. Yes, he carved all those pumpkins. It’s one of his favorite activities.

Ghost stories have always been an oral tradition—shared around the Victorian hearth, intoned around the campfire, whispered while passing the haunted house.

For Halloween, Canada’s Paranormal Eh? honors that tradition with an audio treat—a reading of my out-of-print ghost story “House Sitter”…followed by the true story that inspired it.

Enjoy…and Happy Haunting! Listen here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/paranormaleh/2011/10/25/kristi-petersen-schoonover

Some of the tableaux in the Haunted Mansion may have been inspired by classic ghost stories. CREEP SEA CREATURES, DISNEYLAND VS. WDW, PERSONAL GHOST STORIES AND MORE ON THE SHEENA METAL EXPERIENCE!

24 Jul

If you missed my interview on LA Talk Radio’s The Sheena Metal Experience July 11, the archives are up, and you can listen to it here:  http://www.latalkradio.com/archives/Sheena-071111.mp3

Sheena and I had a great time and two hours flew by like nothing while we covered some topics I don’t usually address in interviews.  We shared personal experiences (she grew up in a haunted house and those stories are CREEPY!), uncovered obsessions with tragic disasters and fires, compared the differences between Disneyland and WDW and reminisced about our extinct favorites, took a look at Disney character development and compared notes on our run-ins with dangerous sea creatures. Don’t miss it!

“DENIGRATING DAVID” NOW IN STATE OF IMAGINATION’S JULY ISSUE!

5 Jul

My short story “Denigrating David” is now in State of Imagination’s July issue!

I’ve been reading State of Imagination since its inception and I enjoy the fresh pieces they publish. Another interesting feature of State of Imagination? It asks each of its writers to provide a paragraph on the impetus for the piece and then publishes it alongside the piece, which is fascinating—especially for me, who keeps a log of all the ideas or inciting incidents that inspired each of my short stories.

I’m really proud that “David” is alongside some very unique pieces, among them Theresa Williams’ “Autopsy,” which is a serious and deeply disturbing piece that explores the effects of death on those that remain alive. Check out the full issue, here: http://stateofimagination.com/index-soi-3/

PROLOGUE FOR HAUNTED DISNEY BOOK II ANNOUNCED!

15 Jun

Me on my first ride on The Mad Tea Party. That's right. I didn't have the courage to ride it until I was 37!

Hairless Girl Does the Hula—Tales from Haunted Disney World is due out in late 2012, and just as Skeletons in the Swimmin’ Hole had a creepy little Prologue (“Monorail Clear”), so will Hairless.

Right now, the Prologue for Hairless Girl Does the Hula is called “What the Dormouse Knows (or, An Average Afternoon at The Mad Tea Party),” and it’s in three parts. As a treat, I’m going to post each here over the coming weeks: Part 1 on June 24, Part II on July 1, and Part III on July 8.

Enjoy and Happy Reading!
